Acerca De The Shrike
The Shrike is a female-fronted alternative rock back formed in 2013.
Their diverse rock sound combines elements of many genres.
The vocals and the diversity of the songs often brings welcome comparisons to Heart and Pat Benatar, while they fully embrace the energy and style of rock bands of the 70's and 80's, such as Led Zeppelin, Heart, and Aerosmith. Other comparisons have included Concrete Blonde and Grace Slick. Modern flourishes and arrangements give this band a classic and dynamic sound.
The Shrike is named after the iconic character in Dan Simmons' classic Hyperion Cantos. The song 'Nomad'' is about a character from the book series. Other lyrical content explores dysfunctional relationships, panic, mental illness, predatory behavior, insomnia, aging, and heartbreak.
The Shrike has performed all around Portland at Analog Theater, Hawthorne Theater Lounge, Ash Street, Dante's, The Tonic Lounge, and the Roseland Theater. They performed at the Portland Pride event six years in a row, and also competed in Revolver Magazine's Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock Battle of the Bands. They have been part of the Grrrlz Rock Music Festival since 2016. Also started performing at The Shift Festival in 2017-2019.
They have also opened for international acts including The Slants, Zepparella, Jennifer Batten, Green Jelly, and Jennie Vee.
The band went into Opal Studios and recorded their first 10 original songs at the end of 2014. They released their eponymous debut album in April of 2015 and embarked on a mini-tour of the NW to support it.
They traveled over 7 states later in that year on their Nomad Tour.
In 2016 they recorded their follow up EP titled Chase the Sun, and embarked on a tour to support that release.
They just completed their Our Time Tour 2018, and in 2019, recorded the RESIST album, released in summer of 2020.
You can find The Shrike on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, YouTube and other online platforms.
