Acerca De Tetrad
A musician since he was 9, Cheyne Bush has been through various incarnations in his musical career.
Beginning with learning saxophone and guitar, he developed an understanding of jazz music in school, and punk and experimental music at home. He started his first band Issue 89, a street punk and ska project, with two friends in Culver City, and went on to play with punk acts like Agent Orange and The Diffs, of whom members of the latter started the band FIDLAR.
Later joining a metalcore band called MidMourn in high school and running a jazz trio to perform at art openings, his diverse music experience all came together when he started experimenting with music software and DAWs such as Ableton Live and discovered artists such as Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, and Autechre, turning him on to electronic music.
As he was developing his style and listening to deep minimal techno and IDM, a new influence came out of his interest in 4x4 and 2-step Garage music -– the new influence was dubstep, in the form of Burial and Shackleton. Discovering the Hyperdub and Skull Disco artists instilled a shift towards his new musical direction. Leading to multiple collaborations with artists such as Brukha, LMNOP, and Watchmaker, his style has shifted through multiple progressions even within the so-called "dubstep" subgenre. Starting with experiments in 2-step, he shifted towards a heavy, Dub Police-influenced direction collaborating with Brukha as Friendly Strangers and with LMNOP as Cybertooth, while simultaneously working under the deeper pseudonym Comt.
This work in varying styles of music has come together in his new project, Tetrad, which represents a culmination of all of the different styles and approaches he's experimented with, leading to a sometimes ominous, sometimes melodic sound that is uniquely his.
