Acerca De Oum

Oum
Oum, a Paris based Moroccan singer, songwriter and composer from
Casablanca, has established herself as one of the leading voices of the
contemporary Afro-Arab scene. Initially trained as an architect, she chose
music in the early 2000s and has since developed a singular artistic
universe at the crossroads of soul, jazz and Moroccan traditions.
After two acclaimed albums released in Morocco (Lik’Oum, 2009; Sweerty,
2012), she reached a turning point with Soul of Morocco (2013), her first
international release, introducing European audiences to a distinctive
artistic signature blending darija, poetry and contemporary influences.
She continued this trajectory with Zarabi (2015), recorded at the edge of
the Sahara, deepening her connection to Saharan roots while exploring
spiritual and ecological themes. In 2019, Daba, produced in Berlin under
the artistic direction of Kamilya Jubran, marked a shift toward more urban
and electronic textures, while reinforcing her humanistic vision.
In 2022, she released Hals, an experimental and introspective project
exploring different states of being, reflecting a new phase in her artistic
research.
The year 2024 confirmed her international reach. She co-wrote Ahlan Wa
Sahlan with composer John Psathas, a symphonic work performed with
the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and released Dakchi, a live best-
of album recorded in Marrakech, followed by an international tour.
Her latest project, Dialddar, marks a return to essentials. An intimate and
radical work built around voice and percussion, it explores cycles of
transformation, femininity and a deep connection to origins. This project
confirms Oum as an artist at the height of her maturity, combining
artistic rigor, emotional depth and universal appeal.
