Acerca De Peninsula

Peninsula
Peninsula is a Mexico-based Art Rock band with Canadian and Mexican roots, known for blending cinematic indie, ethereal wave, alternative art rock, and post-pop into an atmospheric and emotionally resonant sound. Formed in 2011 as a long-distance project between Javier Arizpe and Rosalie Eva in Canada, and Mexico-based drummer Iván Medrano, the band eventually settled in Monterrey, México in 2014. Guitarist Ray Medellín joined the band in 2020, bringing a unique ethereal sound that is now distinctive to the band. Peninsula's bilingual work reflects a dialogue between cultures, combining introspective songwriting with layered guitars, evocative vocals, and immersive arrangements that translate into captivating live performances.
Peninsula first performed in Canada at “In The Soil Arts Festival” in St. Catharines, Canada in 2014, marking the beginning of an ongoing connection with international audiences. Since then, the band has toured independently in Mexico (2014-2026), Canada (2017, 2025, 2026), and Japan (2023), developing a reputation for intimate yet cinematic live performances that incorporate movement, theatrical elements, and multimedia collaboration.
Early releases such as EP's "Balance" (2016) and "Human Feels" (2018) introduced a sound characterized by emotional subtlety and experimental structure, later evolving into the conceptual LP "Constellations / Constelaciones" (2020) and its remix counterpart (2021). "Hilo Conector," released exclusively on YouTube in July 2023 as an audiovisual album, expanded the band’s interdisciplinary approach, presenting music alongside visual narrative, contemporary dance and performance as a unified artistic work.
In 2024, Peninsula released a series of singles as part of their “Punto de Encuentro” project, exploring collaborative creation across locations and artistic disciplines. “Epistemología,” recorded at Zac Records in Monterrey, Mexico, documented the spontaneous composition process in-studio, while single “Friendship 友情” was recorded by Yui Kimijima at Tsubame Studio in Tokyo, Japan. Their single “Propaganda,” featuring animation by Japanese artist Izumi Tanaka, was screened at animation festivals in Croatia (Supertoon International Animation Festival 2024) and the Czech Republic (Anifilm International Festival 2024), and featured in the trailer for the 2024 Silhouette International Festival in Paris, France, alongside bands Fontaines D.C. and Squid, bringing wider visibility to the band’s cinematic aesthetic.
Peninsula’s most recent LP "Sin Resolución" (2026) continues their exploration of emotional ambiguity, inner conflict, and the search for meaning within contemporary life. The album reflects on unresolved tensions — personal, social, and cultural — while maintaining a sense of openness, vulnerability, and possibility. Musically, the project builds on the group’s signature layered guitars, atmospheric arrangements, and expressive vocal interplay, further developing a sound that moves fluidly between fragility and intensity. "Sin Resolución" was recorded by Eduardo Torruco at Some Other Planet Studio in Saltillo, Mexico, with additional sessions at Torruco’s House in Guadalupe. The album also includes 2 tracks (Falla, ARP) recorded with Israel Zacarías at ZAC Records in Monterrey, and 1 track (Pilares) with Peter Haverkamp at Salon at Church / Bridge District Concert Hall in Welland, Canada. The song features vocals by Niagara Falls-based band “A Sea of Gold & Burgundy,” recorded during their joint Canadian tour in 2025.
Through independent releases and international tours, Peninsula continues to cultivate meaningful artistic exchange, building connections across borders and creative communities. Their work embraces uncertainty as a generative space, inviting listeners into an immersive sonic environment that is both introspective and expansive.
