Acerca De Gunther Doug

Your mother doesn’t like Gunther Doug. Your father probably isn’t blown-away either. The Nashville band doesn’t remind them of the good ol’ days, or the Beatles. Gunther Doug may just be a foxhole for music lost in the no man’s land between opposing trenches of time tested genres that have ruled the feudal music landscape for decades. Exuberant and carefree, they are masters of the feel-good, with plenty of technical prowess stowed neatly up their sleeve and no end goal in sight. That’s not to say they aren’t busting ass. Hailing originally from Sarasota (a retirement mecca on southwest Florida’s Gulf Coast), the trio relocated to Nashville in 2010, naive as little sunburnt babies. Three years of exploring the local basement / living room / dive scene culminated in the recording of their eponymous EP at The Bomb Shelter (Nashville) in 2013 with producer Jason Blackburn; ending their four-year run of handmade ‘Garage-Band’ demo tapes. The release sparked an interest in local management team, Madhouse, which, fortunately for the world, has led to the production of their second offering, due this fall, as they maintain a heavy schedule of regional touring. Tele’ twangin, bouncing P-bass, and double-time country shuffle beats rule the night. A very unique and unpolished vocal style bellows from the throat of singer, Devin Robinson, while occasionally the group reclines into jazzy instrumentals. Here’s the thing, it’s hard to put a finger on the end-result of those ingredients. The Dougs themselves are the first to admit this, self-diagnosed as “ShitWave.” With themes drifting between high-school hanging to the life and times of turtles; theres no way to call Gunther Doug a rock or punk outfit with confidence. Label them as you will, they dont seem to mind. So what is to become of a band with no concrete genre and the sex appeal of Isaac Brock? Only time will tell, and time seems to be on Gunther Doug’s side in 2015. Look for the band in a warehouse near you and their sophomore release this fall. Eventually, even momma is bound to warm up to the sultry sounds of these boys. http://guntherdoug.bandcamp.com/album/gunther-doug www.twitter.com/guntherdoug www.guntherdoug.com
