Jake Chudnow

For the past 20 years, Jake Chudnow has quietly built a body of work comprising more than 300 tracks. Most remain unreleased, emerging occasionally in DJ sets and, more rarely, live performances. A selection of this work became widely known through its use on the YouTube channel Vsauce and was later collected as a five-record vinyl box set. Chudnow himself remained largely out of view. His released work includes Shona, the inaugural release on the Bloc. label, “Keith” for Traum Schallplatten and Columbia for Glyph Recordings.

American-born and London-based, Chudnow works primarily with analogue synthesisers, drum machines, found sounds and samples drawn from his own drum recordings. Much of his music is pensive, introverted and nostalgic - made for headphones, solitude, and deep focus. Occasionally, he makes something people want to dance to too.

In his DJ sets, that inwardness opens out into something more communal. Drawing on analogue techno, space disco, and the weirder fringes of dance music, he selects records to make self-consciousness fall away, leaving people free to express themselves however they like and have a nice time with old friends and complete strangers.
