Big Wreck

As always, Big Wreck did not disappoint. Ian Thornley’s vocals are second to none. This is equally matched by his guitar wizardry which unfortunately overshadows the brilliant playing of Chris Caddell. Gotta love when they both play the same solo, albeit at different octaves. The solid bass playing of Dave McMillian and thundering drum style of Sekou Lumumba fills out the tightest playing band you can find. Seen them 7 times over the years, with many more to come. Can’t wait until they start headlining their own tours - they were the stars of the show and easily the best band of the night. Props to Live and Econoline Crush, but Big Wreck is on another plane.

Mr Ian Thornley is Canada's greatest treasure! After seeing Big Wreck up close and personal April 2022 at Midway, this was a bit of a letdown. Bass was too low, vocals weren't loud enough and some of the song presentation was a bit weird. I think the glass in front of our seats was distorting the sound a bit as well. This was a bonus band for the night so glad I have seen them before otherwise I wouldn't have such a high regard for them.

Big Wreck put on an incredible concert!! They certainly didn't disappoint! I would definitely see them again if I get the chance. They played a variety of older & newer songs, and also threw in a Doobie Brothers song which was fun. The members of BW are very talented musicians and Ian Thornley is such an amazing guitarist, singer & songwriter. The Machine Shop was a also very nice venue for this concert. I hope Big Wreck comes back to SSM again because they are worth seeing!

So big wreck was very good. Love there music ,hence why I went. HOWEVER, the biggest issue was with the sound quality. I was about 10' from the stage, and the snare drum was not hardly present. I couldn't hear it. The vocals were soft the overall sound was terrible. The only thing that was hitting was the bass drum, could feel it in my gut. Over powering. I feel like they need better sound mixing. My friend had upper level tickets and he said he couldn't hear anything but the drums, no vocals , no guitars, just drums. So hopefully they'll get enough feedback and make some changes to the sound quality. Electric city is nice for a venue, but sound is my main issue.

Opening act Texas King we’re great. Second time seeing BW at History and once again very impressed with this venue. As for BW they did not disappoint even though this was the last stop of tour and everyone must be beat up a little bit. Ian’s vocals were fantastic, his guitar playing wizardly, and the band was tight. The crowd sang lustily along with band, you couldn’t ask for a better Xmas show to wrap up 2023.

I've seen this band at least 5 times at other venues in the city. I've also seen other artists at the same venue. The performance and musicianship was probably the best I've ever seen from them. The sound though was horrendous. The mid high was boosted (or not cut properly) it hurt the ears. The overall db in the room was fine, just not sure the sound techs knew what was going on. Texas Kings sounded the same, just all muddy sound and ear piercing 3-4K Hz ranges made it unpleasant to listen to.

I’m not overstating when I say this is one of the best shows I’ve seen in the last ten years. And I’ve seen A LOT of shows. The band was so tight and there was actual exuberance from the players. Crowd was really good too. Their opener is now someone I’m checking out because they have a great performance as well. Not a bad way to spend an average Tuesday night.

This band should be as big as the Foo Fighters! Mind blowing performance and the musicianship was top notch. Sound quality was great and the crowd was enthusiastic, the band fed off us and we in turn grew more enthusiastic. The openers Texas King, although more a straight up rock band, were on point and to me seemed like the next Kings of Leon. This night was a treat!

Band was superb and in fine form on the third show of the 2023 North American tour. I wish the venue had a better sound system. There was a weird "out of phase" issue I noticed from my vantage point in the crowd. And while i could heard highs, the bass seemed a bit lack lustre after seeing the Hamilton and London shows. But, the boys still rocked it and it was a stellar show! The massive 2 metre tall mirror ball built into the stage wall certainly made up for the sound, it was neat to see their back line LED lights bounce back off that and hit the stage like a twinkling starry dance set to the music at times.

Big Wreck has gone ampless on stage and now feeds everything through the PA system. I don’t know if it was that or the acoustics of the old, very tall, building but the sound was very distant and unclear. Could not understand vocals hardly at all. We saw Big Wreck at another venue in June of 2023 with amps on stage and it was much more clear and understandable than this concert. The performance itself was fantastic, as usual, although in general, Ian Thornley does not engage the audience much and rarely looks like he’s having much fun on stage. His playing far outweighs his lack of engagement, though, so we’re glad we went.

This was an amazing concert! Big Wreck is a crown jewel in Canadian rock history. The musicianship in this band is world class. Sekou (drums) & Dave (bass) have such amazing rhythm & groove. Chris (guitar) can shred and no one can come close to Ian Thornley’s tone or range of vocals as well as his guitar skills. Epic…just epic! 🤘🏻

Have seen Big Wreck many times before and they just seem to get better every time. Chris is a perfect fit for the band and boy can he play. I mean I don't know what else to say other than if you have seen them you know what I am talking about. If not they are a must see band. One of the best shows ever

Absolutely amazing show! The venue was great, the management and workers were all outstanding. They were totally cool with us having our daughter who’s underage at the show as we checked ahead of time and they marked her as such. This is my eighth time to see Big Wreck/Thornley. If you haven’t you have to! Ian is a guitarist’s guitarist on top of phenomenal vocals and incredible songwriting craftsmanship. And the entire band is mega talented and tight. But the most important quality about these guys is how down home they are and willing to spend time with their fans. They were amazing to our daughter. Sekou treated us like family. Also have to mention the openers were tons of fun, Gloom Girl MFG. Also treated my daughter like royalty and gave her a shirt and signed drumstick. She’ll never forget this show and we won’t either!

Big Wreck was awesome, as always. Great set list. The sound was very good. The venue was packed. Looked like a sold out show to me. And the crowd was very engaged. Often singing along and dancing/jumping around. Ian's voice was strong. His guitar playing was humbling. Everytime I hear him play, it makes me want to either quit playing guitar or go home and practice. They played quite a few new songs but made sure to play the most popular ones in their catalog. If you get a chance to see Big Wreck, do it! Hopefully they will continue to play spots in the US. Killer band.

Opening two-piece act, Caged Affair from Asheville, wasn’t bad. Ian and company brought the receipts! Sound could’ve been mixed better, but the crowd and the atmosphere were stellar! I can understand why they may not allow re-entry, but it could prove problematic. Drink prices were simply unreasonable-two watered-down bourbon/sprites with 10% tip were $40. Anywho, Big Wreck’s 2 hour performance overrode all my gripes…would definitely see them again!!!

Amazing band. Thornley drove the band through a set if old and new songs and absolutely killed. These guys from Canada are the real deal ,so don't miss a chance to see them live. Top 5 singer around period! On another note, try your hardest to miss the s****y opening cover band. A f*****g joke they got to play before the mighty Big Wreck!

They deserve much more recognition in the states but the fans know it’s a blessing to witness such talented musicians perform up close and will continue to support these guys. I can only hope they continue playing and return to the area for years to come. Keep rocking, Big Wreck we love and appreciate you!

Big Wreck is easily one of the greatest rock bands of the last 20 years. Their mix of solid song writing and explosive love performance never disappoints. This show was no exception and has made me an even more devoted fan. If you haven’t heard them go listen now!! Underground Arts was a cool venue but the mix on the sound could have been turned down just a bit to allow for a better separation. Whether or not this was a limitation of the venue, equipment or otherwise I can’t say but the concert was still a great time!

Big Wreck never disappoints. 7th time seeing them and I can't wait for the 8th. They're extremely talented and my fav Canadian band. Hard to find good original rock music but Big Wreck keeps creating awesome rock music. Sierra Pilot was good too. Pleasantly surprised. Always nice to have a good opening band. Little less original overall but the band improved that aspect through their talent. Most impressed by the drummer's energy and the singer was great but still finding his place as a frontman I think. Solid band. Overall awesome show🤘 Bought merch from both groups so they weren't just good they were 'i am happy to give my money to support the bands' good.

The boys nailed it like they always do!! Played a few new tracks with some old favourites. They seemed pretty pumped for this show and we feel so blessed and fortunate that we were in town for this memorable experience. Our third time seeing Big Wreck, we met them four years ago in Halifax when Chuck and Brian (rest his soul 🙏🙏) were with them. This time, I met Sekou, and I can say all of these guys are humble, down to earth, everyday folks who are masters of their craft!
