Acerca De Paradise Lost

Paradise Lost
More than three decades into their career, and with over two million albums sold, Paradise Lost remain the undisputed kings of metal’s dark side. Formed in Halifax in 1988, the band quickly became noted as the pioneers of gothic metal through their early groundbreaking albums like 1991’s aptly-titled ‘Gothic’, a mixture of heaviness intertwined with shadowy melody and atmosphere.
Never a group to remain creatively static, across their career they’ve explored a myriad of avenues of dark music, from sludgy doom-death roots, to conquering the metal mainstream with the enormous, lush sounds of 1995’s ‘Draconian Times’, to more experimental, electronic leanings, leaving an influence on a trail of artists.
Now, in 2025, the Yorkshire quintet return with their staggering 17th album, ‘Ascension’, a record that sees their crown continue to gleam as it underlines just how they attained their position. The albums 10 tracks traverse the multitude of sounds in the band’s arsenal, from full-bore heavy metal to sky-high melody, all the while keeping a minor-key melancholy that remains irresistible.
The NEW album ”Ascension”, is out September 19th, via Nuclear Blast Records, Pre-Order and Pre-Save: paradiselost.bfan.link/ascension

Lo que dicen los fans
I finally got to see them and it was a great gig. I would have liked to hear Embers Fire, though! Band has aged as a fine wine!

Good for fans of the band. The venue was too packed for my liking, so I left after 5 songs. They seemed to be very tight and professional, but I wasn’t feeling any kind of connection, or vibe. There were two support bands. The first were Goth metal, and good, but the second played for far too long, and were a bit boring. The crowd were metal heads 40+ and all standing, talking amongst themselves in their little social groups,, all wearing old band t-shirts. It had a reliving your teens/twenties feeling. I wasn’t a fan in my twenties, so wasn’t really a part of it. They probably had a good time. I’m sure they won’t like this review. I might have had a better time if it wasn’t so busy. I was packed in like a sardine. I give it three stars to be nice. Everyone there was nice.

Absolutely cracking night. A mix of tracks from across the years and PL commanded the floor. Nick was in fine Yorkshire form which pains me to say being from Lancashire and quipped with his usual dry humour. The band sounded tight and the 9 tracks flew by in a heartbeat. A lot of people were understandably there for King Diamond tonight but PL held their own and I felt that their sound mix was the best of the evening.
This slot was certainly a nice warm up for the upcoming Ascension of Europe tour later this year and can’t wait to see them at New Century Hall and then in December at Wool City Rockers in Bradford. We also have the new album to look forward to and hopefully the hardest working band from the North will be playing a tune or three from it at those shows.
