AUTUMN

Autumn Brown and Nehemiah Luckett have known each other for over 20 years, and have developed a musical collaboration titled AUTUMN. Their first EP, The Animal in You, debuted in January 2024, and second EP, The Way Your Blood Beats dropped in August 2024. AUTUMN’s music crosses multiple genres: members of the band refer to their style as "ancestral swag." Black spiritual and gospel traditions, as well as contemporary and experimental choral music, informs the harmonic approach. Each composition is infused with a sense of ceremony, of the fantastical, of time-traveling portals through which the musicians and their listeners can move through the past and towards the future to access grief, joy, and healing. AUTUMN’s live shows are ritual theatrical performances with a rigorous musical core.

Autumn Brown is a multi-dimensional artist, singer-songwriter, and author. Her speculative fiction and creative non-fiction writing has been featured in Revolutionary Mothering, Parenting 4 Social Justice, Octavia’s Brood, and Lightspeed Magazine. She co-hosts the podcast How to Survive the End of the World, and facilitates political education and movement strategy through the Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance. Formerly the front woman of the UK-based funk band, Kilroy, Autumn is a classically trained vocalist, with performance experience in jazz, funk, musical theater, and pop. As a musician and producer, Autumn has collaborated with Cake Bake Betty, Hearsay and Hyperbole, Silversmith, Aby Wolf, Tune-yards, and The Bengsons.

Originally from Jackson, Mississippi, Nehemiah Luckett has been performing, conducting, and composing solo, choral and instrumental work for over 30 years. From an early age he connected his deep love of music to the transformative power of building community through breathing and singing with family and friends. From 2011 to 2020 Nehemiah served as the Music Director and Composer for the activist/performance art collective: Rev. Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir. Nehemiah's theatrical work includes three original full length musicals: "Hamlet: Prince of Funk" (1999), "Brick by Brick" (2006), and "jazz singer" (2019). Projects currently in development include: "Love Out Of Time" a Bible-based AfroFuturist queer opera; "SPUNK" a new production of Zora Neale Hurston’s play conceived and directed by Tamilla Woodard; "A Burning Church" with Alex Hare and Zhailon Levingston; "Triple Threats" with Tracey Conyer Lee; and "Adia and Clora Snatch Joy" a folk opera in five acts with Mfoniso Udofia.
