Low Forest

Kansas City’s Low Forest incorporates aspects of space-rock, doomgaze, and progressive genres into a recognizable but distinct sound. Singer/guitarist Josh King's vocals and guitars bridge the styles of Hum, Failure, and Cave In to create an accessible aesthetic that is equal parts space and rock. Accompanying him are bassist Alex Dunn and drummer Keith Howell, as well as a remote recording team of Halston Rossi (drums) and Brad Schumacher (synths).

2023 saw the debut of the group’s dual rock LPs Entrovert (rock) and Ambivector (space); advancing the space-rock genre by using science-fiction metaphors along with heavy compositions to explore idealism, love, isolation, resilience, and acceptance. Both LPs sync up to create an immersive “space-rock” listening experience when played simultaneously.

The group’s 2025 extended-play effort Orcus 2135: Arrival of the Terraformers continues their sci-fi narrative and further advances the space-rock aesthetic by blending elements of ambient music, stoner rock and jazz. Concurrently they released a tie-in novel of the same titular name written by King.

Low Forest continues to play within the thriving Kansas City regional music scene and has supported touring acts including Pallbearer, Cloakroom, The Casket Lottery and 40 Watt Sun.
