Acerca De Red Mountain Boys
2nd Place winners of the RockyGrass band competition, the Red Mountain Boys are red hot on a two-year plus run!
Playing mostly original material, the Colorado Springs foursome has become local and regional favorites. Their lively performances, four-part harmonies and rousing string work have earned the boys a strong following. The pandemic hasn’t slowed them down, turning to writing new songs and practicing their art and recording when playing gigs was not an option.
Named for Red Mountain in Manitou Springs, band members hail from various parts of the country. Alabama-born band leader Alan Thomas Begley shines on his Martin guitar. Providing the glue, Bassist Jon “Metronome” Murphy is an Arizona transplant to Manitou Springs. Banjo picker extraordinaire and award-winning songwriter Lewis Mock hails from Kansas. From North Carolina playing mandolin is Jeff Daugherty, winner of the coveted John Hartford songwriting award.
The Boys are playing venues large and small, from a crowd inspired Manitou Library Lawn Concert in the rain, to the Mishawaka stage in Ft. Collins, from the Black Rose Acoustic Society in Black Forest to The Rocky Grass Festival in Lyons, the Oriental Theatre in Denver to the Bean Blossom Festival in Indiana.
If you have not seen the Red Mountain Boys, it’s time to catch a show! If you have seen them, I know you will be joining the fun times they bring! As Jeff Daugherty likes to say, “the Red Mountain Boys are seeking world domination, one bite at a time”!
