Acerca De Chris Huisenga

Born in the sleepy foothills of the Black Hills of South Dakota, Chris Huisenga’s sound has been and continues to be influenced by various corners of the nation. From the classic rock of the motorcycle rally in his hometown, to the indie and grunge sounds of the west coast, to the jazz and funk of the east, and the outlaw rockabilly country of the south, he has a knack for finding something to take away from every sound and place. Currently residing in acoustic blues rock and indie singer-songwriter styles, his sound has been described as many sounds and compared to many artists; among the most endearing are the revered likes of Tyler Childers, James Bay, Noah Gunderson, and The Blue Stones. His ability to squeeze a plethora of sounds out of one acoustic guitar, as well as his voice, has earned him opening slots for such national acts as Lincoln Durham, Jason Hawk Harris, Jon Wayne and the Pain, and Chris Castino and Mark Joseph of The Big Wu.

April 2018 marked the official release of his debut self-released album “All My Friends & A Girl”, followed by the single “Twenty-Somethings” in Spring 2019. While performing in support of these releases, he finally had a stage and people to take with him on his musical roller coaster. The rush of connecting with his audience gave him a hint at a spirituality which was different from any traditional belief systems; the venues were and are his cathedrals, and the crowd his choir. “The beautiful aspect of the stage is that it is a confessional. It gives a place that you can really open up, and tell everything that you’ve done, and everything that you feel.” He sincerely believes that art is one of the last bastions of truth and honesty in the world we live in.

He has since continued performing in support of those releases, as well as writing new material for his second self-release album, scheduled for release in summer 2021. Aside from his sophomore studio album, he is also moving forward on a live album to be recorded in the Matthew's Opera House in Spearfish, South Dakota. It is nearly impossible to predict which direction any artist is going to gravitate toward. Chris Huisenga is no different; evolution is a necessary part of both existence and art, and the future for him appears to be evolutionary, artistic, and inspired.
