Acerca De sir Was
sir Was is Gothenburg based producer and singer Joel Wästberg. Since his arrival in 2016 sir Was has carved out a sonic identity that sets him well apart from his contemporaries. He has released three albums, two EPs and collaborated with Little Dragon, Teleman, Gengahr, Falle Nioke, Caspar Clausen (Efterklang) and Seb Wildblood amassing over 65 million streams to date.
Joel began playing music at a young age, learning the saxophone and later on piano, bass, guitar and drums. In his mid twenties he signed up for an exchange programme in a South African University immersing himself in the music scene there and neighboring countries Mozambique and Zimbabwe before returning to Sweden to play drums and percussion for artists such as Jose Gonzalez and Junip, all the while secretly making his own music. His debut album Digging A Tunnel was hailed by press and music fans alike. Taking influences from Moondog, D’Angelo, J Dilla and Mahavishnu Orchestra it was chosen by Lauren Laverne as her BBC 6 Music album of the year. In 2018 he was invited to the exclusive collaborative performance experience PEOPLE in Berlin with Feist, Bon Iver, The National and many others. Moving on to Memphis Industries in 2019 he released Holding on to Dream featuring the single Deployed featuring his good friends Little Dragon and then 3rd album 'Let The Morning Come' containing the FIFA 2019 approved single 'Before The Morning Comes'. His 4th album is called We Can Go Anywhere From Here
