Acerca De Me and My Friends

Me and My Friends play soulful, poignant and gloriously danceable music, subtly referencing many styles, including vintage Ghanaian highlife, Jamaican roots and Afro-Brazilian folk. The UK-based quintet create a timeless sound with a global outlook, performed with an infectious energy, and the result is instantly recognisable, highly original and truly genre-defying. The elegant voice and West African finger-picking guitar style of songwriter Nick Rasle is cradled by stunning vocal harmonies and the evocative combination of cello and clarinet, all underpinned by a rhythm section with a deeply infectious groove. This is sun-drenched, euphoric music for both brain and booty. Me and My Friends released their critically acclaimed second album Hide Your Way on Soundway Records in 2016. Featured on BBC Radio 2, 4 and 6 in the UK, as well as FiP and Radio Nova in France, the album headed up Quantic’s ‘favourites of the year’ mix. Their whirlwind live show has been a headlining favourite of venues and festivals across Europe over the past 12 months, gaining an army of discerning fans at home and abroad. Their highly anticipated 3rd album is set for release in Autumn 2018. "Unusual instrumental forces create a sublime fusion that combines pastoral dreaminess with the heat of reggae, highlife and Afrobeat sounds” - Songlines Magazine. “This was an amazing live show!” Will Holland (Quantic). “A life-affirming sound”, Loose Ends, BBC Radio 4. “I’m loving this!” Steve Lamacq, BBC Radio 6 “They’ve got joy written through them, like a stick of Blackpool rock!” Alex Lester, BBC Radio 2. The sound of English folk colliding head-on with the golden-era music of 1970s West Africa and the Caribbean.
