Acerca De My Octopus Mind
My Octopus Mind are an Experimental Rock Band drawing upon influences such as Jeff Buckley, Deerhoof, The Mars Volta, and The Blonde Redheads. They have carved a bold yet delicate sound - Part ambient introverted journeys of a wandering mind, part jagged crunchy riffs and soul wrenching howls.
The band stems from the songs, drive, and vision of guitarist/vocalist Liam O’Connell who brings intricate, explosive guitar parts into contrast with sweeping, weeping and at times raging vocals. Diving into the mix is the affected double bass of Izy Ellis, bringing fuzz, filth, and haunting grace in equal measure. On the drums is the newest member of the family, Oliver Cocup, formerly of epic instrumental Prog band Lambhorn. Bringing a strong, cohesive, no nonsense approach, his mission: To find the perfect groove among the odd timings and ever evolving patterns.
Sweaty raw power balanced with breathtaking beauty, their Live Shows have become renowned for thrilling displays of virtuosity and excitement; each member simultaneously on their own mind-boggling tangent, whilst being perfectly locked in with each other. Added to this are random outbursts of poetry, at points dark, angry, and surreal.
Prolific and diverse, they've surprised audiences everywhere. From festivals, including Shambala, SGP, Glastonbury, to underground Music venues, arts institutions, retro Cinema’s, and abandoned buildings. Along with this they have composed and performed live music for a theatrical circus show called The Creator, the silent film Nosferatu and a short animation as part of Channel 4's Random Acts.
They are currently putting the finishing touches to their first full album to be released in stages through the Spring and summer of 2019. Let Fly the Great Cephalopod Consciousness!
