From their formation in 2008 until their final show in 2014, The Fundamentals worked tirelessly to bring their unique sound and exciting live show to audiences everywhere. Now, nearly three years later, they will reunite for a one-night-only performance at the Montreal Ska Festival! Known for their energetic and engaging live performances, The Fundamentals toured Canada for several years and played alongside many notable acts, including The Aggrolites, The Planet Smashers, Vic Ruggeiro (The Slackers), Catch 22, Chris Murray, King Django, and Vernon Maytone. They were also featured at several festivals, including POP Montreal, Pouzza Fest, Victoria Ska Festival, Montreal Ska Festival, and Ottawa Ska Festival. Their debut album Get Alright (2012, Stomp/Jump Up!) produced by Mitch “King Kong” Girio recalls the rhythms of 1960s Jamaica, with roots firmly planted in the traditions of early ska, rocksteady, and reggae. They combine these influences with an abiding love of blues and soul, and an attitude that is pure rock’n’roll. After their farewell performance at the 2014 Pouzza Fest, several members moved away from Montreal to pursue their own projects, both personal and professional, but all remained close friends. The Fundamentals are very excited to be reuniting for the 2016 Montreal Ska Festival, an event that helped launch the band early in their career. The weekend festival also features ska legend Stranger Cole, Florida’s The Duppies, and Stomp Records family members The Planet Smashers, The Beatdown, and Danny Rebel and the KGB, so it’s sure to be a wild one.
