Acerca De The High Mile

With the release of the Red Sun EP, The High Mile brings a new feel to a clashing of genres. Lush with addicting progressions, a soulful indie vocal approach, and alternative take on reggae, the record boasts the aesthetic of folk pop anthems. Although the songs are diverse from one another, there is a glue that holds them all together much like a concept album would. Most importantly, the album never loses sight of the emotional platform great songs are built from.

The first single, “Empty Words”, is an instant reggae rock classic. Complete with a heavy groove, guitar hooks, and a persistent pop undertone, the song seems to breathe and build as it plays on.

“It’s about the unfulfilled promises some lovers make and overcoming the heartache that follows. We chose this as our single because we feel it best represents the vibe and idea of what The High Mile are all about” explains songwriter Randy “Rasta” Mendoza of the bands single.

Although the single does speak volumes for the album, to get a real understanding for where The High Mile is coming from, it should be heard in its entirety.

“Even though there are only four people on stage most of our music incorporates as many as 6 instruments providing in a raw sound that is still very full. Half of the album deals with matters of the heart while the other half is dedicated to living life free and with love. This record is musically about vocal harmonies over bass driven rhythms, and pop/alternative hooks “says the band of the album and songwriting approach.

Starting off as a two piece, The High Mile began as a friendship amongst college classmates and eventually grew from there. The band is now a four piece group comprised of Randy “Rasta” Mendoza on rhythm guitar and vocals, Mike Wagner on lead guitar, Ryan Damian on drums, and Ryan Heffernan on Bass Guitar. Their combined influences bring a new twist on reggae and the Red Sun EP is the epitome of where they are at with their sound right now.

Since their debut they have shared the stage with main acts such as The Wailers, Katchafire, Through The Roots, Inna Vision, Maoli, Sun-Dried Vibes, Ballyhoo, Resinated, Treehouse, Roots of a Rebellion, NoNeed, Animo Cruz, 40 Oz to Freedom, Peni Dean, and the Bumpin Uglies. In 2016 the band was nominated at the 1st Annual Support Local Music Awards for Best Local Band and Best Local Live Performance. In 2016 they received Honorable Mention for Best Local Live Performance and their bass player Rasta Mendoza won the award for Best Local Bass Player at the 1st Annual Support Local Music Awards. From January 2017 – Late April 2017 they held the #1 spot on the Houston Reverbnation reggae charts.

Red Sun is now available for streaming and downloads on most major digital outlets and the boys have plans for touring coastal Texas this mid-Summer.
