Acerca De Caswell
London-born Suffolk-based Caswell crafts a flavour of neo-soul propelled through glimmering chutes of downtempo electronica, resulting in an elaborate forma of pop. This spring she returned with the release of sophomore EP ‘Blindside’, fronted by new single ‘Surface’ and backed by three sell-out launch shows.
The soloist grew up immersed in a myriad of musicality, armed with her first microphone as a toddler. She subsequently taught herself the piano and began writing music aged ten, siphoning early songwriting inspiration from some of the most distinctive female vocalists of the last century; Kate Bush, Nina Simone and Erykah Badu, cultivating a classification of her own.
In 2018 came deep-rooted support from BBC Introducing and endorsement from the PRS Foundation, from which she received the ‘Women Make Music’ grant. She was also praised as a highlight of Latitude festival on the official website. Alongside acts like Wolf Alice and alt-J, her performance was described as ‘as precious as the Obelisk Stone.’
This year has seen support from Huw Stephens BBC Radio 1 show and Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 Music mixtape, as well as performances at Reading & Leeds Festivals. Many have also followed the success of her journey throughout the nation-wide battle of the bands competition in which she went on to support Ed Sheeran on the final night of his record-breaking Divide world tour, playing to 40,000 people in Chantry Park.
