About Reece Ratliff Music

A native of Wilmington, Delaware, 17 year old indie pop singer-songwriter Reece Ratliff picked up his first guitar at the age of two, took the requisite guitar lessons in grade school, and cut his teeth in his local chapter of School of Rock, playing the classics from the Beatles to AC/ DC in the school’s prestigious house band, DE-Team. Drawing on his own musical influences, such as Christian French and Lauv, Ratliff began expressing himself through songwriting.

After releasing his debut EP, I’ll Take The Fall, at 16, Ratliff set out on the road by himself for his “hero’s journey,” a month-long acoustic tour across the eastern half of the United States. Crashing on friends’ and strangers’ couches, Ratliff played shows in 21 cities and generated much of the inspiration for his new album. During his stop in Nashville, Tennessee, he began the process of redefining his sound, writing and recording his most recent single, “Cruise Control,” which has since amassed over 200,000 streams on Spotify.

Since then, Ratliff has fallen in love with the city of Nashville, commuting back and forth from Delaware once a month to work with producer Matt Kass on his debut full-length record, Compass. In stark contrast to the alternative sound of I’ll Take The Fall, Compass operates around bright synths and commercial pop production while still maintaining Ratliff’s honest, vulnerable lyricism. With vocal hooks and catchy melodic material to spare, the anthemic indie- pop record is sure to catch the attention of the broad audience that Ratliff is reaching for.

A live performer to watch, Ratliff has already wowed audiences from top regional stages like The Queen, The Bowery Electric, and the Baby Grand at Wilmington’s Grand Opera house, where he participated in the finals of “Musikarmageddon,” an annual showcase of Delaware’s most promising up-and-coming artists. Ratliff will be booking tour dates in support of the new record in the coming year.
