Johnny Walker Wisdom

Johnny Walker Wisdom have delighted local listeners since the summer of 2011 with their unique brand of soulful Americana, folk rock and blues. Starting life as a 4-piece inspired greatly by the Seeger Sessions of Bruce Springsteen and the inarticulable genres of Leonard Cohen, from whose song lyric they took their name, the 4 quickly became stalwarts of Omagh's music scene with their old time acoustic sound and raw 3 part harmonies. Their inimitable sound proved to be so high in demand that soon the band found themselves entertaining music lovers in pubs, functions and festivals all across the North of Ireland. However, in the words of Shaw, "Progress is impossible without change". They now find themselves spread out between London, Belfast and Dublin throughout the year, and owing to their ridiculously busy schedules have taken a much more selective approach to the gigs they love so much; a chance to come together in their hometown or descend upon a city in which one of them inhabits to, for one night only, recreate that special atmosphere that only they know how. Over the years, as their musical tastes and experiences have developed, so too has the band. They now have 6 members. They have a brass section. And their acoustic genesis has evolved, with the help of a drum kit and electric guitars, to a sound with a much rockier core. A bedrock if you will: Johnny Walker Wisdom have gone plugged. This has allowed them to further explore the music they love, with artists such as Paul Simon, Van Morrison and The Band coming into the fray, but has also added another layer to the bread and butter classics of Ray Charles and Tom Waits that have treated them so well. What is unchanged, however, is the band's roots. It's all about the melodies. It's all about the harmonies. It's all about the music. Keep an eye on this page for gig announcements.
