STG Presents The Sound of Violet as a part of our 2014 Nights at the Neptune series! RSVP recommended.In two acts, Zaki•Rose has carefully curated an artistic expression of the ups and downs of cancer, and how it affects all people. Music, science, art, & community will integrate during this one night event in order to introduce to the audience, Project Violet, and what Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Dr. Olson, and his team have contributed toward modern day cancer research. Project Violet's development will shift the course of cancer as we know it.The people who believe in its research power Project Violet, therefore “The Sound of Violet” is a performance that will intimately invite the audience to experience the journey of the lives affected by cancer and how a Community works together to eradicate it.Project Violet is fueled by ordinary citizens rather than investors or large pharmaceutical companies. By funding the creation of optide libraries through philanthropy, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is able to share these candidates with scientists working on rare and incurable diseases for decades rather than having the candidates end up in the hands of a single pharmaceutical company. Using blueprints from nature, their team can theoretically generate more new drug candidates than there are stars in the universe. Whereas they could make about 12 per year in the past, it is now possible to make 10,000 in 3 weeks.
