Jar Biography

JAR was formed in 2007 when brothers John Thornburg (then 14 on Drums) and Russ Thornburg (then 10 on guitar) joined Alex Addams (then 15 on Bass and Vocals) to play the local teen centers on the “Eastside” of Seattle. After 2 demos, Addams left to focus on his education and Musical Theatre. In the winter of 2009, childhood friend Julio Posada was asked to join the band and John took on the responsibility of Lead Vocals. Building on their love of 60's/70's Classic Rock and 90's Grunge, JAR can be best described as the love child that resulted from The Doors and Nirvana having a One Night Stand. In the winter of 2010, after 2 more self-recorded basement demos (recorded by Pat Moon of Shotty) and several “Open Jam Nights” at Oddfellows Bar and Grill in Redmond WA, they caught the eye of Lynn Sorenson (bass player for Bad Company/Paul Rogers) and his partner, drummer Doug McGrew (now touring with Geoff Tate of Queensryche). It was the decision of Sorenson and McGrew to change the band’s name to “Jar of Rain” sighting several other bands in the US and Internationally with the same name. That relationship resulted in a 5th demo recorded in Sorenson’s basement that the band was never thought captured what they really sounded like. In the Spring of 2012 Miller and the band’s families financed the first professionally recorded and produced full length album. Acting as Executive Producer, Miller brought in up and coming producer Johnny “Rocket” Adams (of Hot Roddin Romeos) and Engineers Curt Nelson and Rachel Fields to record at Fastback Studios in Seattle. The Album, HUMANS was then mastered at RFI Studios by Ed Brookes. Adams’ use of layering auxiliary keys (some provided by guest keyboardist Robert Lee Mitchell), percussion and other instruments and vocals, was the first to capture the explosive and dramatic LIVE performance that the band was becoming known for. HUMANS was released in the summer of 2012 and the band has been playing in support of the album almost every weekend ever since. After 5 years, 7 demos, 1 album, countless hours on stage and an absolute rifle focus on making music a lifetime career, it is time for the world to know 20 year old John Thornburg, 16 year old Russ Thornburg and 19 year old Julio Posada.
