Talk In Colour Biography

Rushes EP available from BandCamp: http://talk-in-colour.bandcamp.com/album/rushes as well as Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rushes-EP/dp/B00DL7B3YG and iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/rushes-ep/id665741274 Lead single Rolling is accompanied by a richly textured video directed by Bafta-winning director Tinge Krishnan, best described as the most fun you can have with a roll of gaffer tape, a pot of Vaseline and a lead singer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUxtICxZMwI Following 2012's critically acclaimed album, ColliderScope, Talk In Colour have been in the studio working on a more stripped-back, raw sound, melding together their trademark delicate vocal and harp melodies with glitchy electronics, off-kilter percussion and distorted guitar. With the early incarnations of the band dealing in purely instrumental music, it is no surprise that the vocal led material present on their latest EP brings with it a rich and intricate pallet of instruments. Extended intros and expansive riffs give way to delicate and moving lyrics in a melee of syllables and sounds, creating what can only be described as cinematic future-pop. Rushes comes from the name given to the first print of an unedited film reel and reflects the bands shift towards releasing smaller volumes of work but more frequently. The EP has received universally glowing reviews from the indie blog scene and deserves a wider hearing: "Richly layered with lots of interesting sounds and a slight oriental flavour then a chorus that is worth the wait, Mary Erskine delivers ethereal vocals that will stay in your head but without overstaying their welcome like a gorgeous dream." God is in the TV "Hailing from London, the city that spawned Grime, nurtured Punk and catapulted Dubstep into the sonic stratosphere, Talk In Colour emit pure, unadulterated soundscapes, brilliant in clarity, highly captivating and a clean contrast to the majority of sounds that represent this town." Never Enough Notes "Rolling... enchants and beguiles in equal measure." Indie London, Single of the Week 4/5 "'Rushes' is a brooding affair in which lyricism and instrumentation are held in equal regard....in a scene saturated with folk bands and indie boys, Talk In Colour are breathing new life in to a stagnant pool and we should all be grateful for it." Little Indie Blogs 8/10 Talk In Colour is: Chris Bangs (electronics, cello, vocals, production); Kat Arney (harp); Mary Erskine (keyboards, vocals), Nick Siddall (guitar, production) and Rob Hervais-Adelman (drums). The band recently curated a residency incorporating live scores for some of the brightest up and coming directors on the indie film scene including Romola Garai, J Blakeson and Carrie Cracknell, highlighting their affinity with music and the moving image. Formerly known as The Shadow Orchestra, Talk In Colour slips effortlessly between pure instrumentals and vocal driven tracks, bridging the gap between the electronica of early DJ Shadow and the poetic songwriting of Joni Mitchell - think Alt-J, Villagers, Wave Machines, Berlin-era Bowie and the XX. Talk In Colour create intricate and detailed soundscapes with a strong ear for melody, putting the digital heart of electronic music into the living body of live instrumentation. Talk In Colour continue to build on their reputation for blistering live shows, combining dirty bass lines with impressive musicianship, with shows in London and beyond, including the Union Chapel, Jazz Café, Ronnie Scott’s, Thekla, Bestival, Big Chill and more. "A subtly stripped but soulful number from this London combo, finely dressed with electronics and a rootsy vocal." Metro, single of the week "Musical discovery of the morning <3 <3 <3" Lauren Laverne, BBC 6Music “A beautiful female vocal … surrounded by an ever-changing musical backdrop: by turns ambient, jazz and folk without quite being any these.” Fresh On The Net "Ecstatic folk melodies and textures" Financial Times - 4 stars "...faultless production ... rich and mesmeric" Drowned In Sound "’ColliderScope’ delivers an enticing wave of experimental sound, gilded by shimmering juxtaposed shades of light and dark." Shout 4 Music "... had us hooked from the very first minute" No Fear Of Pop To get a flavour of the stuff we like and make, check out our Shady Ladies podcasts produced by Kat and Mary: https://www.mixcloud.com/Talk_in_Colour/ Widescreen Post-Pop
