With songs that deal with insatiable desires, or tell an unsettling narrative from the point of view of a troubled young mother who drowns her own child, COCAHALA's songs are rich with thought-provoking poetic content and unique perspectives. "Being deemed mentally ill has a pretty strong taboo attached to it. It was something I struggled with for a long time before I realized that I could harness— at times— the extreme experiences I had into a muse for my craft." Ranging from hard-hitting power pop anthems such as Breakout, to the hauntingly confessional Leave You Behind, COCAHALA has produced an impressive roster of material for a relatively new act. Formed in 2013 with longtime friends Dov Kushnir (Drums) and Don Masakayan (Keys/Guitars), COCAHALA serves as a platform for expression, allowing the telling of heartfelt narratives bolstered by an infectious alt-pop sensibility. Featuring Kate Devlin's powerful female vocals in the style of Janis Joplin or a No Doubt-era Gwen Stefani, compelling, sing-able choruses and rich instrumental arrangements, COCAHALA presents a polished, full-bodied sound that is primed for discovery. Fitting somewhere on the Canadian rock spectrum between Alanis Morissette and indie darlings Metric, COCAHALA's unique sound is at once a throw-back to the golden years of 90's alt-rock and a forecast to the future of dance-inspired pop music. Demonstrating a unique business-savvy, they will be releasing new material via a single-orientated sales model.
