Steve Layman Biography
Steve is a New York native, a Philly transplant, a textbook Capricorn and unabashed recluse. "Acoustic punk" is a literal description of how he performs, but the way he writes music is more complex to toe-tag with a genre. Sonically, he never completely delves into one particular niche of punk music & lyrically he never gets unbearably depressing, uncontrollably enraged or mercilessly optimistic. His debut full length "Hope Is All We Have" is truly a Steve Layman record, ten songs written exactly the way he wants to write music. He generally refrains from comparing himself to other musicians, but we asked him to and his reply was "I'm an uglier Brian Fallon, Greg Barnett without the Catholic upbringing and a shorter, poorer, accent-absent Frank Turner." Since 2010, Steve has performed in fourteen states with the likes of Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls, The Menzingers, Into It. Over It.,The Front Bottoms, I Am The Avalanche, Crime In Stereo, Jeff Rosenstock, Signals Midwest, Paul Baribeau, The Sidekicks, Ramshackle Glory, Austin Lucas, Koji, Alcoa, Drug Church, Pentimento, PJ Bond, Old Wounds and many others. 2018 will bring about the release of "Divest" &"Selfish". Artistic expression isn't about being original. It's about being yourself. Once you figure that out, you'll make art that you like.
