Miss Meaghan Owens Biography

Meaghan Owens offers songs that are glimpses of America---always insightful, sometimes funny, and sometimes sad. She sings in the voices of her characters. Listen, and you’ll hear young sweethearts, vagabonds, whisky-drunk preachers, wild girls ready to fight, French cabaret songbirds. Her sound is Indie. It’s Country. It’s Folk. It’s filled with subtle connections to Jazz and the Blues. She seeks out the songs that live way down in our dreams and despairs. The lyrics are filled with real glamour and grit. They tell of the feelings of regular folks on the edge of a choice between light and dark. Real voices and stories are in her voice and words. Owens is a Midwestern girl who’s rambled all over the place. She has toured extensively in the U.S.---from smoke-filled Austin honky tonks, to Milwaukee punk rock clubs, and to California folk gatherings. She has shared the stage and opened for musicians, including national country and folks acts Junior Brown, Buddy Spicher, and the Nashville Cats (including the late Don Helms, pedal steel legend for Hank Williams Sr., Loretta Lynn, Pasty Cline). She also has been billed with Tracy Grammer, Stella Parton, Jim Lauderdale, and Phil Lee. Never afraid of hard work, Owens pays her dues in Nashville and on the road. That includes everything from rockabilly vintage car shows, touring with the world-famous Wall of Death trick motorcycle riders, to venues such as The Brink, Bluebird Café, Shank Hall, Stage Door, and Stage North. She was honored to be included in many music and songwriting festivals: Summerfest, Steel Bridge Songwriter Festival, and Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival. Owens music is multilingual with lyrics not only in English or with Irish lilt but also in Swedish, French, and Russian---depending on the story she is musically sharing with her intrigued and appreciative audiences. Currently, Meaghan is touring, working with G4V (Guitars For Vets), writing, and spending time in Nashville, Milwaukee, and Madison where she is recording her second CD. REVIEWS “If Marie Osmond is a little bit country and a little bit rock’n’roll, Owens is also that---and more.” (Molly Snider-Edler, music reviewer,www.onmilwaukee.com) “This Milwaukee singer-songwriter has a languid delivery and a quirky composing style….. Accompanied by her own electric guitar playing, it’s a collection notable for its spare, stark production and oddball, ear-catching novelties.” Robert K. Oermann, music reviewer, Nashville Star Judge, Music Row Magazine). AWARDS -- 2007 WAMI nominee for best Bluegrass/Americana Artist NEWS -- The second edition of Meaghan Owens' CD, “No Whiskey in a Good Girl’s River,” is available at her performances and on I-Tunes. (It features guest artists from the Violent Femmes, The Danglers, Get Up Kids, Hayward Williams, plus a previously unreleased bonus track.) www.myspace.com/meaghanowensmusic Meaghan’s e-mail list: megowensgigsandnews@gmail.com Miss Meaghan Owens is an Americana singer-songwriter.
