Nick Sumner Biography
On a fateful September evening back in 2012, Nick Sumner walked off the stage after what was looking to be the beginning of something big. He and his last band had just finished an opening set for Slash with Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom, and it was every bit amazing as could expected. However, it wasn’t to be.
After the birth of his daughter, Nick left the band and performing music behind within the next 2 months, their new EP unreleased, and all that potential extinguished.
But as much as he thought music was a part of a former lifetime, songs are something felt so deeply, it has proven impossible to stay away. You could call it a reinvention, but it’s more like a reawakening. As with anything, it’s taken some time, but with the release of the single "Look Out Below" making some waves this summer, and with a solid lineup of musicians, Nick ad his band The Assistance are already in preproduction for their next release.
Nick Sumner & The Assistance are working to stand with modern contemporaries on the shoulders of giants. Crafting intricate songs that bleed from an Americana heart but kick with the grit of New York City, Nick brings an edge to the familiarity of the genre. It’s been called “Indie-Rock, but with a bit more sophistication.”
