Irenic

Irenic may be new and still growing, but one thing remains the same, singer/songwriter Kyra Jones. Picking up the guitar at 21, she quickly progressed through the open mic scenes of central Ohio. This led to Kyra Jones Trio, and the introduction to the local Ohio music festival scene. Writing all her own music and lyrics to 19 acoustic folk style originals, for two studio albums in 2009 and 2011. Kyra began playing electric guitar and formed a band in 2012 called Irenic, which means to promote peace. Guitarist Kevin Michael Brown recalls Kyra’s earliest moments in her home town open mic’s of Newark, and has been a spectator to most of her musical journey. “I met Kyra when she was just starting out, she came out every week and always presented something new and better. But what really stood out to me was how much drive she has to become a better guitar player and songwriter.” Brown goes on to say, “In a very short time she became one of the hardest working musicians I know!” Drummer Keith Mitchell owns his own contracting business and really just enjoys playing for fun. “Just tell me where to be and when,” says Mitchell. Then that leaves newest member, David Nathans on bass guitar. “I’m just excited to play with a group of motivated and talented musicians. I expect good times and great music ahead.” Kyra’s traveled all over Ohio to play open mics, and is now introducing Ohio to Irenic. One thing many of her fans can agree on, “…each and every time you see her play she gets better and better.” One fan said, “I’ve never heard something so powerful come out of someone so small.” Surely something you will want to hear and see for yourself. “Everything about music is a journey unlike any other, and the bigger and better it gets, the more fun it gets!” says Jones. “I’m having more fun than I have ever had in my life!” Irenic has begun writing their first album as a band, and with a rock blues sound inspired by her love for Stevie Nicks and Susan Tedeschi, it hopes to be an album that sets her apart from most female front-women! Original and retro blues rock folk and funk with a dash of pop and ska.
