Baxter and the Basics Biography

Baxter and the Basics has found the sound you've been looking for in your new favorite rock band. Baxter started playing together in the fall of 2012 while attending the University of Georgia. Early on they began the recording of their first EP from their apartment. Released in January 2013, The Meantime EP is their bedroom created work that displays their huge potential and touches on various genres and styles. In the fall of 2013 Baxter went into the studio - this time to record their debut album. After a successful funding through Kickstarter, the band was well on their way to creating a fully-realized debut. Over a span of 3 days the band recorded their 11-song album, "And So Are You." This quick pace resulted in a live, gritty feel - the exact sound Baxter was looking for. Each member draws from varying stylistic backgrounds and influences, the sum of which coalesce into catchy, groovin' rock tunes. Chris and Courtland both have extensive knowledge of good old fashion rock – tinged with blues and folk. Brian takes inspiration from his early beginnings in hard rock and metal, and Mario draws his drum technique from a long background in gospel and soul. Mix in the fact that all members swap instruments from song to song and that the 3 songwriters switch off lead and backup vocal duties, and you have Baxter's debut, "And So Are You." It’s a diverse album that varies immensely from track to track, yet somehow melds into a definitive and cohesive Baxter sound. Take "Black Ice" - the track where 1960s pop rock is brought into the 21st century "Tiger Got To Hunt" - the sludgy, riff based tune that transforms into a balls-to-the-wall punk jam for the latter half "Girl From The Lingerie Store" - a song you’d almost like to fist pump to if it wasn’t for your dignity telling you not to or "Speak" - one of the slickest grooves on the album which pulls you in, ends up taking you for a ride, and ultimately insults you for believing it could be so tame. All in all, "And So Are You" is a good ol’ rock 'n' roll album at its heart. Given a chance, it will groove you and move you, in the hope that every listener can glean some kind of reward out of its characters, narratives, and sonic twists and turns. The album was released January 24th, 2014. "The album as a whole is a breadbasket of different sounds, but together they create a harmony that shows off what Athens, GA is all about." - Katie Flint, The Blue Indian Find our music online on: Bandcamp http://baxterandthebasics.bandcamp.com/ iTunes http://bit.ly/1iu0oSn Amazon http://amzn.to/1l5N0pH CDBaby http://bit.ly/1mQRnTI Follow us on twitter: @thebaxternauts http://baxterandthebasics.com
