Choon Goonz are a genre-hopping party crew who take their fun seriously. Back boned by the tricknology of turntable tech-wiz Loopert Fast and the deft production of pianist and vocalist Smashka Word'n, the trip-hop inspired maestros turn the stage into their studio, combining razor-sharp live-production and looping techniques with the tastiest of beats. With the ability to execute the 'standard' performance, hold down marathon DJ sets, facilitate workshops, jam with a band, or engage the audience to become a part of the music, Choon Goonz always ensure fun on-the-fly antics. They focus on capturing the spontaneous genius of creativity, keeping it alive, raw, and genuine in essence. Both Smashka Word'n and Loopert Fast have dedicated their life to finding that perfect Choon. Smashka Word'n, born Tashka Urban, spent her child hood treating music production as her 'computer game'. A third generation Alice Springian, Smashka's sound was guided by a decade of classical piano, the rugged red heart of the country and the family's blind adopted owl, Zing, who would hoot when her songs were sounding special. A creative enthusiast who lives and breathes music, she dedicates herself to utilising the arts to create social change. She earned her stripes facilitating workshops in remote bush communities and performing shows around the territory. Tashka's talent attracted the attention of the industry, winning Musicoz's APRA Songwriter of the Year 2006 for her track 'Together in this Life'. The years since have been spent refining her production skills and entering the world of electronic music. Loopert Fast, born Rupert Faust, and well known as Brother Beans, is a life lover of music and its power to inspire positive creative change through shared experience. He has not only honed his own craft but assisted a myriad of musicians on their endeavours through organising and promoting countless parties, and recently founding Beanstalk Records. A self confessed technophile, he embraces the possibilities music technology allows for live performance. Beginning with the simple set up of two turntables and mixer in 2007, he has gradually moved into the digital DJ world with a rig that now incorporates the latest soft and hardware music technology. Rupert's passion for bringing people together to share, celebrate and grow music around a set of speakers, not only sees him scratching samples and mixing funky beats, but encouraging live participation through recording vocals, midi or any instrument for that matter, and playing it back straight, looped, scratched or sampled, thus facilitating the recording and jamming of totally improvised and spontaneous music.
