Young Light

YOUNG LIGHT took a bare-bones approach to the ethereal indie-rock the members are known for playing, but minimal is not a word you’d ever find yourself using to describe them. While taking cues from the forefathers of the genre as well as stripped-down contemporaries like No Age and Japandroids, the YL songs evoke the swirling ethereal pop leanings of the first APOF album; concentrated, undiluted, and simplified. In his turn as a solo performer, Michael Feerick of Amusement Parks On Fire (Filter, V2 Records), formed YOUNG LIGHT during a break in their activity and is joined by Micah Calabrese of Giant Drag, on drums and keyboards. While Feerick was dividing time in-between England and Los Angeles (where Calabrese resides); they wrote songs long-distance when they couldn't be in the same room together. They recorded Great White Arc in Chicago with Jeff Dean (engineer behind recent recordings by: Braid, Articles of Faith & Dead Ending) at Million Yen Studios. The duo are planning US tour dates to promote the release in summer 2013. The EP includes special liner notes written for the release by Jeff Pezzati (Naked Raygun, Big Black).
