Midnight Drive Biography

What is a song? A song is a whirlwind of emotion that should be pointed directly at the heartstrings of those listening. It does not necessarily have to be sad or slow… just real. Midnight Drive has taken this philosophy and turned it into a unique blend of country, blues and rock-n-roll that anyone can relate to. When you are wrapped up in the emotion of a smooth melodic ballad, Midnight Drive will follow with a country back beat, and then punch you in the gut with a hard hitting, guitar driven rock tune. There are no rules to music… and if there were, it should read, “Play the music you love.” Nothing more… nothing less. These words are what formed Midnight Drive and what continues to drive them to make music. The deepest roots of >Midnight Drive run back to little league baseball, where Jason Holder and Zac Grantham met. After a near-deadly line drive to the chest, Jason and Zac formed a friendship that has led them through numerous bands both together and separate. Zac’s journey through hometown bands led him to Blake Easley of Collinsville, TX. After playing drums with Blake for a brief period, Zac moved on to other things, where he and Jason reunited in a group that seemed to have a revolving door at the bass player position. This door was closed after Chad Henderson recommended Victor Johnson of Gainesville, TX to the group. Victor then became a permanent fixture to Zac’s left side. After differences in opinion, Jason, Victor, and Zac went out on their own to pursue a more fulfilling musical experience. The road brought them back around to Blake Easley who seemed to be a perfect fit to front the group. The only hole left to fill was lead guitar. Ironically, Victor recommended the same guy that recommended him to the group. Chad Henderson also of Gainesville, TX came to try out for the group and immediately was perfect fit. With a full line up, Midnight Drive then began the task of learning tunes, trying to book some local shows and working on their freshman album. “Back Against the Whiskey” was released in April of 2012, less than a year after the group had formed. This album was a mixture of five guys from five different backgrounds coming together on ten songs that were all written individually. Within “Back Against the Whiskey” you will find many of the groups influences such as Ryan Adams, Johnny Cash, Randy Rogers Band, Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, and James McMurtry. The album has hatched three singles, Right With You, Start With a Kiss, and Mama Don’t Know, which has landed them on stage with such acts Pat Green, Randy Rogers Band, Stoney LaRue, No Justice, Roger Creager, Diamond Rio several others. With their freshman album behind them, Midnight Drive has set new goals for their future. The first of which includes writing an EP together; locking themselves in their beat laboratory and not quitting until every song is a perfect representation of Midnight Drive, their direction, and their love of music.
