Paryah Biography

Rhode Island band Paryah likes talking to strangers. In fact, their very existence has depended upon it. Having spent their formative years playing clubs around Providence and hitting all the local talent shows, sisters Amy Woodbine and Katy Reign have been combining their musical abilities on drums and vocals/guitar, respectively, ever since. They wrote songs and practiced in a dimly lit cellar and refined their performance skills onstage – eventually opening for Dope, Twisted Method, Motograter, Fuel, Lita Ford and Halestorm. Throughout their early careers, Woodbine and Reign had sifted through multiple bandmates in an effort to complete a full band with the right sound and attitude. By chance, in the vast galaxy of cyberspace, they discovered Connecticut guitar player/songwriter Blake Sco, who had been journeying across the country in search of musicians on the same wavelength as he. However, with other projects underway and a stiff 60 miles between them, a union seemed virtually impossible – and was quickly axed. Six months later, the timing was right. Within weeks of reconnecting, the guitar player, drummer and singer were finally together. Soon after, longtime friend and bassist Ron Marsden came in to solidify the lineup. Recognizing the immediate rapport amongst everyone, the group set to work merging riffs, licks and lyrics into a heavy yet melodic style that conjures up shades of Garbage, No Doubt, Halestorm and Black Stone Cherry. Singer and frontwoman Katy Reign describes her lyrics as focused on “getting in and out of hard times” and always strives to weave a theme of optimism throughout her subject matter. Writing and recording music is a lifestyle for all of the members in Paryah; no time off for this band as they are set to bring their creative output to stages both near and far this upcoming year. As a group consisting of musical outsiders, they were brought together by a love of music and are bound by an insatiable appetite for raucous and hard-hitting performances.
