Dirty Red Shoes Biography

Dirty Red Shoes (DRS) is a rock band that was formed in 2007 in Levis, Quebec, by two brothers: Mathieu Denis (singer / guitarist) and Pierre-Luc Denis (guitar). They were joined later by Jonathan Vachon (bass) and Jean Rancourt (drums). Over the years, DRS’s music was mostly influenced by the alternative rock of the 1990s and video games musical scores, mostly 1980’s Nintendo 8-bits. Their songs are catchy and filled with poignant melodies. Through their lyrics, the band seeks to provoke by exposing some of society’s wrongs and ultimately awake people’s souls. En 2009, the band starts renting a house and living in cohabitation in order to facilitate the writing process and to improve the chemistry within the group. The strategy is a success and in 2010, after playing many shows in the local scene and around their hometown, DRS sign a contract with Rival Discs (branch of Milagro Records), a label based in Trois-Rivières, Québec. They start the recording process for their debut album later in 2010, wich took place in Hudson, NY at Henry Hirsh's (Madonna, Lenny Kravitz) studio, in Pembroke, ON with Jordon Zadorozny (Sam Roberts) and in Trois-Rivières, QC. Steve Durand (Melissa Auf Der Maur, Tinker) and Francis Perron (Éléphantine) were chosen as producers. The result, A New Level, is a rich, mature and impressive first effort that can only let you looking forward for the next album with great anticipation. A New Level is available to buy in stores and to download online since june 2012. The first single, Break The Wall, hit many radio stations in the province of Québec during spring 2012. A video for the song Black Flower has been shot and directed by Matt Charland (Melissa Auf Der Maur, Sir Pathétik) and is now online. With their irresistable charisma and their contagious energetic scenic performances, we can say that the best is yet to come for Dirty Red Shoes A modern rock blended with a « retro-grunge-gamer » touch from the 80s and the 90s.
