Kendall Ramseur Biography

Kendall Ramseur is a cellist, composer, singer, and songwriter from Charlotte, North Carolina with a passion to create positive, inspiring, and heart-felt experiences through music. Kendall’s relationship with music began at age seven when his father purchased an upright piano for the family. No one could have fathomed that this gesture would open the chamber to Kendall’s talents and, ultimately, his career. While excelling in his piano studies, Kendall found his instrument of choice at age ten, “My orchestra teacher laid all the instruments on the floor in the classroom and told each student to stand by the instrument of their choice... the cello really sparked something in me”. The day Kendall chose the cello was the day one of his expressions chose him. Kendall is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA). He studied cello under the instruction of Dr. Brooks Whitehouse. Upon graduating UNCSA, Kendall matriculated to Boston University’s College of Fine Arts (BU) where he received his Master’s of Music in Cello Performance with Marc Johnson, member of the Vermeer String Quartet. While in Boston, Kendall expanded his scope of musicality by experimenting with many genres of music. He enjoys fusing the sounds of different genres with classical elements learned through conservatory training. Kendall’s invitation to perform for the late Dr. Maya Angelou at her home was one of his most cherished. He played his original composition “How Far I’ve Come” to commemorate her eightieth birthday, “It was a performance that lead to tears and healing for the body and soul. A performance I will never forget,” says Kendall. In 2013, Kendall received sponsorship for his first album T.I.M.E. of all original works and kicked off his first tour called the “T.I.M.E.” Series Tour in North Providence, RI in the Fall of 2013. During this tour, Kendall made stops in the Boston and New England areas. He was later awarded the Gospel/Inspirational Artist of the Year by the Boston Music Awards and recommended by The Boston Globe to perform original compositions at the 2014 First Night Boston. Since then, Kendall has performed his original compositions at over 60 events in the Boston area including: ArtsEmerson “The World on Stage”, Cast Party for “Daniel Beaty”, Wheelock’s 2013 Metro Boston Race Amity Celebration, Legacy Place Mall, Kendall Square Concert Series and Boston Green Festival. Kendall was a featured panelist on the Boston University Music Symposium, “The Multi- modal Musician: The Success of Adaptability”. Kendall is one-fourth of the nationally-acclaimed Sons of Serendip who gained fame during Season 9 of NBC’s America’s Got Talent. This opportunity has allowed him to exercise his performance and composition abilities and has also given him the chance to co-arrange material for the group’s performances. Through various experiences and interactions, Kendall realizes he can utilize many of his talents by combining his skills of: composition, songwriting, singing, piano and cello playing to tell a story. “I was placed here on this earth to INSPIRE, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do”.
