The Rusty Datsuns Biography
The Rusty Datsuns formed way back in ’11 during the floods of Brisbane, while taking shelter in the living room of a high-set old Queenslander. While the water was getting high, they sang harmonies around the kitchen sink to keep their spirits even higher. Featuring key members of vaudeville Roots act "Bessy-Lou" ( Sian Evans), punk/folk band "These Dirty Bones" ( Fern Thompsett) and Dancehall reggae outfit "Chocolate Strings" (Al Skinner), the Rusty Datsuns combine to make a sound unlike any of these, but like a well-worn pair of overalls, it just… fits. By some strange chemistry, the sound that grew from this unlikely union is a glance over the shoulder to the wholesome tunes of yesteryear, an ol’ timey folk sound with a healthy bluegrass twinge. Combining sweetly woven vocal harmonies over a backdrop of deftly fingerpicked guitar, ukelele and soaring fiddle, the Rusty Datsuns create the musical equivalent of freshly baked cookies from your grandma’s kitchen. Warm, beautiful, easily digestible, goose-bump inspiring music. See for yourself why audiences keep returning to fill empty spaces and be moved........
