The Cut/Up Biography
THE CUT/UP The Cut/Up is an indie-rock band from Amsterdam that takes its inspiration from the likes of Hot Snakes, The Afghan Whigs, Cinemechanica, Les Savy Fav, Moving Units and Dinosaur Jr. Dark and distressed lyrics find their place between puzzle-piece guitar riffs and pounding bass parts, driven by a controlled battery of drums. Sparked by the possibilities of desktop producing Joost Olsthoorn and Nicholas van den Doel decided to team up and give it a go. Joost, having played drums for 15 years in the band Soda P (and guitar on his couch), found out that programming drums and recording guitars and bass with it, made a good start for writing songs without having a band. The tracks were sent to Nicholas who, in between bands since Oil quit in 2004, would do his vocal parts at his house and voilá, 12 or so songs were written. This was the basis used to find a drummer and bass player and start working. Eduard de Ridder (Samaritan, Feast and numerous other bands) joined on bass and Gertjan Bazuin (Alizarin, Sea Fur) took on the drums. This happened early 2009. Having spent more than enough time in their practice space, The Cut/Up is now ready and willing to take the stage.
