The Darkened Seas Biography

www.triplejunearthed.com/thedarkenedseas The Darkened Seas create rock and roll music that is at once matured, yet fresh; classy, yet untamed – only one thing is certain, they have forged for themselves a refreshing and unique sound and an aura sure to disquiet audiences. After several years vested in separate ventures the four young Sydney musicians united early 2012 and immediately plunged in the deep end, cutting their first EP at Linear studios in February. Since then it has been a freight train bullet of blues infused rock and roll madness for this up and coming Sydney band. Winners of Hornsby’s Rock the Block band competition in April, they have since been solidly gigging, cementing their ambition as a live band to be reckoned with. The eponymous EP, which was the first from the band, received red-hot responses from all exposed to it when it was released to a crowded Annandale Hotel on June 9. From Kerouac inspired dark minor boogie “Nighthawks”, to ‘Lou Reeds’ “Circus Boy” and “Shanty Man”, the New York thing is there (the band’s name comes from a phrase in Reed’s VU smack anthem, ‘Heroin’). Street Lips is a 12 bar blues that allows the character and power of the band to really rise up spun with love sick poetry. Being influenced by writers such as Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, lead singer Carl hints at images of surrealism as his verses are sharp, lyrical and original. The band have hijacked for themselves all that is powerful and impassioned in rock’n’roll. Their songs are raw, and guttural sound is drawn from a swirling whirlpool of all things dysfunctional, all things honest. Rock & Roll http://soundcloud.com/the-darkened-seas
