Ben Fagan & the Holy City Hooligans Biography

Ben Fagan and Quentin Ravenel take hip hop beats.. mixed under funky feel good reggae flows and give you something fresh. It's not just entertainment.. it' "music with a message." Ben is arguably the most soulful white boy you'll come across and Q is the straight up most entertaining drummer you;ll ever lays eyes upon!! Ben is a writer who's songs can lift you and make you dance or send you on an introspective journey. Whatever the mood, poignant lyrics and visceral melodies wiggle under your skin to reach body and soul. From early on, Fagan’s been a " wordy guy.” At 4 years, he wasted no time memorizing all the lyrics on his brother’s albums. He spent the next years expanding his repertoire, crooning to the sounds of his favorite icons: Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Sublime, to name a few. Fast forward to college and beyond ... Freshman year, he spit enough words to win an "MTV Campus Invasion Freestyle Contest." Senior year, with Phi Beta Kappa locked down, and fronting his rock band on school nights, Fagan made his mark on the college scene. As a frontman, Fagan's been described as a "consummate performer." His first band, The Plainfield Project, based in Charleston South Carolina, drew a following that packed local and regional venues. Its ska/reggae influenced rock earned heavy rotation on Charleston adult contemporary radio. Fagan wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on the band’s cd compilation of sun-drenched grooves, varying from trippy to soulful... Ever-evolving and committed to keeping it fresh, Ben picked up his musical soul mate Quentin Ravenel and launched The Holy City Hooligans in early 2011. Quentin musical chops were formed in the church at an early age. His mother was the lead in the choir and made Quentin hold down the rhythm almost every day in church. This love of gospel has morphed into a love for soul, funk, hip-hop, reggae and more. Ben and Quentin have created the Hooligans much in the style of Bill Withers, Sublime, Stevie Wonder, OAR and a host of others. Their sound blends genres that you don't often hear combined. In May '11, the band released its debut cd, "The Freestyle Sessions 1 with a follow up in June of 2013 "Freestyle Sessions 2." Both CDs have seen heavy rotation in the Charleston area with "We will Remain" and "FlyHi" gaining the most attention. These days, Ben and Quentin split their time gigging on both East and West coasts as well as touring throughout the Hooligans' second home, Costa Rica. Growing crowds of new and existing fans are shaking' to the funky chops, swaying to the soulful grooves, and bouncing to the hip-hop beats. Street-smart and irrepressible, the Hooligans are charming followers from the L.A. beaches to Hilton Head Island, with no plans to slow down anytime soon.
