Forging Reverie Biography

2012 – “Motion Canvas” Equal parts abrasive and beautiful, answering moments of reflection with those of frenzy, and sprinkled throughout with hints of pop and esoterica, Forging Reverie is a self-described “expressionist” rock band centered in New Hampshire's seacoast. Currently comprising vocalyricist Tye Newton, guitarist Derek Heidemann, drummer Sean Gregoire, multi-instrumental recordist Justin Newton, and new bassist Taylor Jones, the band’s music is a dynamic fusion of eclectic influences and disparate impulses from five individuals, spanning the gamut of a vast realm of contemporary rock. After over a year of fierce dedication, the band is poised to release their sophomore album, “Motion Canvas,” in late 2012. The writing for this album spanned the four to five years since the release of their debut, during which the band experienced many transformations, between lineup changes, major shifts in lifestyle, and expansive growth as musicians. As a result, this new record distinctively marks a new beginning for the band. In Tye’s own words, “the name ‘Forging Reverie’ is a reference to the creative process, acknowledging artistic expression as the product of inspiration, passion and applied diligence. It is what we do, individually and collectively, as we continue our evolution as artists. It begins somewhere outside ourselves, but requires our inward focus and dedication to achieve fruition. In turn, the album title ‘Motion Canvas,’ might represent our continued willingness to wipe ourselves clean; that we are a living, breathing canvas through which our experiences are filtered and expressed anew, with each iteration of ourselves.” Fan reactions to the new album: - “Educated music with a vision. Full force rock with feeling. Mental and aural stimulation. Hard rock with beautifully dissonant melodies.” - “Motion Canvas is an energetic record with purposeful lyrics and gripping vocal arrangements.” - “Smart musicians who know rocking requires space...There's measured force behind Forging Reverie." - “Great for people looking for variety in one record...a great classic rock feel, while embracing newer sounds.” - “Melodic rock with lots of harmonies and depth to the lyrics. Not typical rock built out of just power chords.” - “Rock sounds explosion that will get you up on your feet.” - “...the first word that comes to mind is ‘intensity’...I find myself...getting more out of the words and the imagery every time..." - “[Like] Incubus with a ridiculous amount of attention to the details. A multi-layered soundscape of epic proportions.” - “I'd recommend [Forging Reverie] to Circa Survive fans or anyone who misses good, clean sounding music that hasn't been overpowered by distortion.” - “This album breathes---there's breath work through it---warning: listeners may potentially learn, transform and...grow with this album---this is an album I know I will return to again and again for transformation and validation...” History & Accomplishments FEB. 2006 - Began as quartet at Plymouth State University: Tye Newton, voice; Derek Heidemann, guitar; Ryan Kinghorn, bass; Michael Cuddihy, shortly replaced by Benjamin Biery, drums 2007-2008 - Recorded/released debut album “Skipping Stones” MAY 2008 - Placed first in PSU’s annual Spring Fling Battle of the Bands ‘08 - Scheduled to open Spring Fling Concert for co-headliners Reel Big Fish and The Starting Line* MAY 2009 - Second consecutive first-place in PSU’s annual Spring Fling Battle of the Bands ‘09 - Opened Spring Fling Concert for headliners Gym Class Heroes JULY 2009 - Original semi-acoustic arrangement of song “One Idea” recorded/released as part of a limited edition compilation to benefit The Dover Children’s Home of Dover, NH OCT. 2009 - Opened PSU’s annual Homecoming Concert ‘09 for headliners Eve 6; first live performance with drummer Sean Gregoire, after parting with Biery that summer FEB. 2010 - First music video: spoof rap single “Northbound,” featuring founding bassist Ryan Kinghorn as alter-ego rapper “MC Safety,” as well as the band’s recording engineer/producer Justin Newton, lip-syncing under the moniker “jnTracks” Summer 2010 - Justin Newton joined the band, now quintet, adding new dimension with keyboard/synthesizer and audio sampling, as well as supporting guitar and vocals Autumn 2010 - Original “One Idea” single included in soundtrack to feature film “Sunblocked” by Astropiano Films 2010-2011 - Main production of independently recorded and produced sophomore album “Motion Canvas,” to be released in late 2012 Spring 2012 - Reluctantly parted with founding bassist Ryan Kinghorn, primarily due to logistical circumstances** - Bassist Taylor Jones joined Forging Reverie *Forging Reverie’s performance canceled due to illness-related vocal strain. **Kinghorn remained an integral contributor to the “Motion Canvas” project, and is therefore fully credited and represented in all promotional material and artwork.
