KILLA KAKE Biography

Music is not just an interest to Kyle Herman; it is his life. Born and raised in York, Pennsylvania, Herman (otherwise known as “KILLAKAKE”), developed a passion for the industry early in his life. From playing in the school band at an early age to picking up guitar in the seventh grade, KILLAKAKE has a diverse background in the field. Around the time of high school, he first found his love for the hip-hop genre. “I was attracted to hip-hop because the artists just had an ‘I don’t give a sh*t attitude’ about them and it was different than anything I had ever listened to.” In a self taught process, KILLAKAKE began to learn how to create his own beats as a teenager and never looked back. “It was a lot of experimentation when I began and in a sense it still is today. Putting together a beat is like piecing together a puzzle without looking at the box; you don’t always know what you’re going to come out with but you know when it is right.” “The best part of making music is that you literally have the option to do whatever you want with it. I think that real music has to have an element of soul, so I love ripping through old records and sampling music that you don’t hear as much anymore.” KILLAKAKE then went on to Penn State to increase his skill set, majoring in film and video. “Anything creative appeals to me. Putting together different shots in a video is like layering a beat. Film is huge to music and helps the audience visualize a song.” With the ability to record, produce, film and edit, KILLAKAKE presents a skillset unique to the industry. KILLAKAKE is now turning that skillset into a career. “Making music is the first thing I found in life that never gets old. It’s a fever I have that never goes away. And I don't want it to." Now in Los Angeles, California, KILLAKAKE is set to take on his newest project, I Hate Normal. It will be his debut solo album and his most complete project to date. “This album will be the most comprehensive reflection of how I think on a daily basis and who I am.” The idea behind the title, I Hate Normal, comes from KILLAKAKE’s disapproval of the general population’s perception of a normal way of thinking. “A lot of people view being labeled as weird as a negative thing. I take it is as one of the greatest compliments in the world because that means I am processing the world in my own way and being myself, and who I personally want to be in this world.” With strong attitude and energy, KILLAKAKE will incorporate serious topics in an unexpected way on this album. “Every year I’ve gotten better at what I do. A lot of people have heard my beats and know I can produce, now it is time for me to show I am a talented songwriter and rapper as well.” Look for I Hate Normal to be released later this year.
