Grass Root Kids Biography
"For a substantial period, Grass Roots Kids’ album was the preeminent voice of my steely gray vehicle, taking me on long, speedy drives down I-65S to a job I despised, curtailing my dread with its youthful passion and inspiring compositions." - Lockeland Springsteen http://lockelandspringsteen.com/1999/04/03/whats-happening-tonight-roadkill-ghost-choir-sol-cat-grass-root-kids-diamond-carter-neulore-tin-pan-south-pick/ "Grass Root Kids’s folk-influenced, Arcade Fire-tinged indie-rock is deliciously novel and exciting" - No Country for New Nashville http://nocountryfornewnashville.com/2013/05/17/twin-this-weekend-in-nashville-517-519/ Grass Root Kids started with a desire to do something genuine and in November of 2011, Kyle Hassenfratz and Chris Pottinger formed the foundation of what would become Grass Root Kids in that same spirit. After one jam session with Kyle, Chris brought in friends and fellow musicians Jared Cooper and Mark Summarell. Having recently moved to Nashville, Joska Borbely was invited to come out as well. After 3 months of writing, rehearsing and bonding they played their debut show at Nashville’s Limelight to a room of just 60 people. Shortly after that, Grass Root Kids expanded their lineup with talented vocalist and violinist Grace McCaw. On July 13th 2012, the friends, family and fans of Grass Root Kids successfully funded the Kickstarter project for GRK’s debut EP “Loose Change”. Together, they raised over 20% of their goal. On October 1st, 2012, Grass Root Kids released their debut EP “Loose Change” on Itunes and Spotify, followed by their physical EP Release show at The High Watt in Nashville, TN on Oct. 19th, 2012. Since then, Grass Root Kids have garnered attention from The Deli Magazine being selected as their “Band of the Month”. They've headlined their first festival stage at Clarksville’s Riverfest. They've played the very exclusive East Nashville Underground Festival. Word of their live show is spreading through Indie blogs with comparisons to the likes of Manchester Orchestra and Arcade Fire. In 2013, Grass Root Kids played all over the eastern US from Atlanta to Buffalo. They came home with intentions of creating a full album that really delivers the energy they put into every show. Their as of yet untitled debut album is expected to hit in the early Summer of 2014. www.grassrootkids.com
