Bodurov trio Biography
Bodurov Trio, a modern, dynamic jazz group, led by Bulgarian pianist and composer Dimitar Bodurov, has been performing actively since 2001 throughout the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Austria, Israel and Bulgaria. Members of the group are: drummer Jens Dueppe, bass player Mihail Ivanov and pianist Dimitar Bodurov. Bodurov Trio freely explores new grounds, crossing genres and melding musical forms, creating an intense sound, conspicuous themes and beautiful improvisations. Bodurov’s fascination with Bulgarian folklore evolved in a characteristic style, unique and distinctive in connecting folklore elements with contemporary jazz. "Stamps from Bulgaria", the band’s successful project is a remarkable example compiling a series of compositions based on traditional Bulgarian folk songs and dances. “Stamps from Bulgaria” came out as an album, released for Challenge Records in 2008. It was included in Volkskrant’s (NL) selection for top 10 CD albums in the Netherlands for 2008. The band’s latest album “Seven Stamps”, explores the intrinsic variations of the very popular rhythm in 7. The album was released in January 2013 (again by Challenge Records) and features the celebrated Bulgarian kaval player Theodosii Spassov. In November 2003, ”Melatonic”, the band’s debut album with exclusively own compositions, was released for the Norwegian label Acoustic Records. Famous ECM pianist John Taylor described it as "a marvelous debut!". The Resumption suite was Bodurov's graduation project, for which he received Cum Laude in jazz piano at Codards university in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. A contemporary jazz piano trio fighting with the Bacillus Bulgaricus and major jazz inFLUences !!! CAUTON: their music is highly contagious and it might stick in your head for longer period then desired.
