Room & Board Biography

go to roomandboard.bandcamp.com for the new album! "equally shares the Alex Kapranos vocal attitude with the most upbeat moments ofTelevision and it’s strictly heading to be one of the brightest yet familiar pop sounds that you’ll hear recently" - soundinjections.tumblr.com " this band has enough creativity and confidence in their identity to give the whole album a natural feel... Yep, this band is sticking to their own terms and there will be hell to pay if anyone gets in their way." - iamtunedup.com "You’d be stupid not to check out this self-proclaimed “dark indie pop” group" -midwestmusicreport.com On a November Saturday in 2010 a band known as Honeymoon formed in Columbus OH, practiced a 6 song set that Sunday, and performed their first show opening up for So Many Dynamos that Wednesday. One could call it an experiment, however an experiment into something more... straight forward. Tinged in New Wave, surf rock, and dark pop, the performance would be a major departure from the organic and brooding indie album Carnivore by the band's frontman (solo artist Jonathan Hape). This experiment, however volatile and green, was not a horrific mistake but instead the first musical foothold in a long time for both Hape (guitar/vocals) and his long time multi-instrumentalist Nick Baker (whittling it down to just bass guitar for this project) as well as a new adventure for Andy Foster (drums/photography). The band used this enthusiasm and spontaneity to locally release a live demo entitled Xyloglophy. The album, recorded at the bands 4th rehearsal, would prove a substantial jumping off point for the trio. During the second weekend of sessions for their debut album, in the seclusion of Foster's parents home in Mansfield OH, the band received a cease and desist for use of the name Honeymoon. With all existing merch and promotional materials rendered inert the band would suffer from a lack of direction until the beginning of 2012. This would mark the beginning of Room & Board, but only after months of personal life changes, frustrations over recordings and the name change, and countless shows without a sign of a release date for their debut. After a short hiatus, as well as the seemingly spontaneous existence of Hape's dream pop album PLACES, the now self titled Room & Board record was finally set to be released in Summer of 2013. Pulling from many of the same influences that started the band (surf, new wave and post punk) R+B has many elements of motown, doo-wop, blues rock, and indie pop. The debut comes across as familiar and haunting while truly capturing the nuance and energy of those mid ohio fall sessions almost 2 years ago. upcoming shows: 9/4 - Dayton OH NPR WYSO on Kaleidoscope Radio 9/18 - Columbus OH @ Kobo Live 9/21 - Lima OH @ Avalon Bar 10/5 - Toledo OH @ The Ottawa Tavern 10/17 - Columbus OH @ Kafe Kerouac 10/18 - Cleveland OH @ 21 Lounge 11/1 - Athens OH @ Casa Nueva 11/12 - Columbus OH @ Double Happiness 11/15 - Canton OH @ Buzzbin "Adhesive and groovy new wave/rockn'roll... one of the brightest yet familiar pop sounds that you’ll hear recently." ~ Sound Injections
