Seth Chapla Band Biography

"Music without words means leaving behind the mind. And leaving behind the mind is meditation. Meditation returns you to the source. And the source of all is sound." - John Milton, Arcades Since 2005, The Seth Chapla Band (formerly The Seth Chaplas) have written, performed and recorded guitar-driven instrumental music. Influenced by both iconic rock guitarists (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen), and blues/soul/funk legends (The Meters, B.B. King, Otis Redding, Steve Cropper), Seth Chapla's music is varied in feel and mood, but uniformly melodic and groove-oriented, with enough technical guitar work to satisfy even the most critical aficionados. In addition to releasing two full-length, self-released albums, Rock! (2007) and Ascent (2012), The Seth Chapla band has performed at some of San Francisco Bay Area's finest music venues, including: The Great American Music Hall, Slim's, Boom Boom Room, and (now defunct) Berkeley venues Blake's on Telegraph and Shattuck Down Low. Throughout most of 2011 & 2012, the Seth Chapla Band hosted a weekly soul jam night at Oakland's legendary venue, The Continental Club. A San Francisco Bay Area native, the front man and namesake of the band, Seth Chapla is multifaceted musician, audio engineer, and luthier. Seth is the proprietor of Chapla Labs in Emeryville, CA - a 1200 square foot studio featuring a large live room, 2 isolated booths, a control room and a guitar workshop, featuring over a dozen custom, handcrafted guitars built by Seth Chapla. Seth has also contributed to the development of several popular guitar-based video games, including Rocksmith (which includes a play-along for "Jules," from the Seth Chapla Band's 2012 release, Ascent), Guitar Hero Van Halen and Band Fuse. As a solo guitarist, Seth Chapla has performed the national anthem for the 2010 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, and the San Jose Earthquakes at their season opening home game. The Seth Chapla band features the all-female rhythm section of Rhonda Kinard (bass) and Anna Cucciardo (drums). Both Rhonda and Anna have been playing alongside Seth for nearly a decade in not only the Seth Chapla band, but also in Soul/Motown/R&B cover band, West Grand Boulevard. Also appearing either live or on Seth Chapla Band recordings are special guest performers: Nathan Reich, Keisuke Kato, Matt Montgomery (Versus Them), Ray Jacildo (The English Beat, JD McPherson), Tom Silveira (Two Left Feet), Nick Peck, Mario Silva (Rupa & The April Fishes), Vincent Lay (Muncie, Go Kart Mozart), Bob Mathre (Muncie), Stephen Goodwin (Vicious Rumors, Damage Inc.). The Seth Chapla Band is based in Oakland, California and available for booking. For more information, please contact Seth directly at sethchapla@gmail.com.
