Happy Mondays808 State SoundsystemAfter selling out shows in their 2012 tour, the Happy Mondays are back and ready to twist Brighton’s melon in 2013. On bank holiday Sunday 26th of May, the full original line-up of the Mondays will be bringing their iconic Madchester sound and rock ‘n’ roll swagger to the shores of Brighton, for a live show like no other. Support on this one off date, comes from acid house legends 808 State Soundsystem.The Happy Mondays are as iconic to British music as the Hacienda in which they were discovered. Staggering their way through the early 90’s, with a series of massive singles and albums, they established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Pioneering the cross over between dance music and indie, with British rock and roll excess, they rapidly entered into folk law as the stories of their exploits spread with their music.Formed in 1980 the bands original line up consisted of: Shaun Ryder on lead vocals, his brother Paul on bass, lead guitarist Mark Day, Paul David on keys and Gary Whelan on drums. Mark “Bez” Berry later joined the band onstage and added a freaky twist of energy and percussion. Rowetta Satchel joined the band to provide backing vocals in the early 90’s. Discovered by the late Tony Wilson at a battle of the bands contest, the band signed to Factory Records and released “Forty Five EP”. Shortly followed by the first album “Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face can’t smile (White out)”, produced by Velvet Undergrounds John Cale. “Bummed” was released afterwards in 1988. The acclaimed “Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches” was released in 1990, produced by Paul Oakenfold, it went on to go Platinum selling over 350,000 copies. This put the band on the map as one of the most influential bands to come out of the UK in the early 90’s. “Step on” and “Kinky Afro” both went top 10. By the early 90’s the Mondays were leading the way for the expanding Madchester scene and personified rave culture. Numerous world tours meant the band had international success. The line-up of the original band remained the same tight unit during the first ten years. After this incarnation of the Mondays came to an end in 1994, some of the magic seemed to vanish. Now for the first time in over 20 years, the full original band is back together and coming to Brighton.On Sunday 29th January 2012, Shaun exclusively announced on Xfm that the band would return with the original and what he felt was the definite line-up. After a sell-out come back tour in May 2012, including 3 dates at London’s Brixton Academy, the band went on to headline Camp Bestival and T in the park. They are now in the studio for the first time since 1992, working on new album for 2013. The Mondays are back…………………………………….
