Natalie Prass’s performance was five-star all the way, from her charming stage presence to her voice, which sounded amazing even though she said she had a cold. Her band was also terrific, playing with spare precision but able to build up a real head of steam as the songs required. And what songs! Drawing on both of her albums she gave a good overview of her diverse range, from the rueful Your Fool to the airy funk of Short Court Style. A high point was a delightful version of Dionne Warwick’s Dèja Vu, which she and the band should record ASAP. My only complaint had to do with the crowd, who seemed to barely give her a chance, talking throughout and not even applauding! I know Rhye was the headliner but STILL. Such is the free concert experience, I guess. But I would pay to see Natalie again!
