Book by Neil Simon Music by Cy Coleman Lyrics by Dorothy Fields Directed and Choreographed by Kathleen Marshall Musical Direction by Gerald Sternbach Based on an original screenplay by Federico Fellini, Tuillio Pinelli and Ennio Flaino. Produced for the Broadway stage by: Fryer, Carr and Harris. Conceived, Staged and Choreographed by Bob Fosse. Starring Laura Bell Bundy as Charity, Barrett Foa as Oscar, and Jon Jon Briones as Herman Based on Federico Fellini's "Nights of Cabiria," SWEET CHARITY was director Bob Fosse's riotously colorful valentine to his then-wife, Broadway dancing phenomenon Gwen Verdon. Premiering in 1966, it was nominated for 9 Tony Awards and ran for 608 performances. The story centers on Charity's life as a dance hall hostess "with a heart of gold," determined to break out of the Fan-Dango Ballroom. She sings and dances to such rousing classics as "Big Spender," "If My Friends Could See Me Now" and "There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This."
