Sonnymoon is the brainchild of musicians Dane Orr and Anna Wise and since 2014 have been joined by vocalist and dancer J. Hoard. Their dynamic and beautiful journey began in 2009 when Anna and Dane Orr began making music together after a chance first encounter. Since then they have recorded and released 3 albums and 1 EP with a 4th album imminent featuring their latest singles Root and Ideas both of which were uniquely and so beautifully performed at Los Guapos’ Casa Los Guapos at SXSW in Austin. Anna herself is a Grammy Award winner and collaborator with Kendrick Lamar since 'good kid, m.A.A.d city' (“Real,” “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe,” “Money Trees”), To Pimp a Butterfly (“These Walls,” “Institutionalized”) & untitled unmastered ("untitled 01 | 08.19.2014." & "untitled 05 | 09.21.2014.") with their song “These Walls” winning the Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Sonnymoon is currently located in Brooklyn and we are delighted to have them grace and launch our Sunset Session series at the Freehand. Opening the Sunset Sessions is our good friend Nickodemus who continues to spread his global sound through endless exciting DJ tours, studio recordings, and ever scouting new music for his acclaimed Wonderwheel Recordings and his incomparable Turntables on the Hudson traveling party globally. Many of the creative friends he’s met along the way have provided the inspiration for his latest album. With a number of special guests including Ninja Tune vocalist Grey Reverend, star of Nubian pop Alsarah, Antibalas co-founder Victor Axelrod (Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson) and recent Bonobo-collaborator Innov Gnawa from Morocco, 'A Long Engagement' is a diverse sonic portrait mapping 25 years of Nickodemus’ connecting people through music. After picking up a used guitar in 2011, the instrument has been a key component of her songwriting and evolution as an artist. It is all about spontaneous energy, uplifting melodies, and emotional vocal performances that connect with the audience on a deeper level.
