A rare opportunity to hear the solo repertoire of the shakuhachi in an intimate setting, performed by Hawaiʻi's own Riley Lee. The program includes classical “original pieces” or koten honkyoku which were created, transmitted, and performed within the Zen Buddhist context of spiritual practice known as suizen or “blowing meditation.” Riley will share the stories, meaning, and imagery behind each piece, as only a grand master of the shakuhachi can.
